Parents in Wetherby and the surrounding areas have been invited to attend Wetherby High School’s Open Evening, taking place on Wednesday, September 28, from 6-8pm.

It’s been organised by Headteacher Samantha Jefferson and the Senior Leadership Team, and gives parents and children a chance to tour the premises, meet current students and staff and ask any questions they have. They will also get a chance to hear about plans for a new purpose-built school building.

Ms Jefferson said: “We place relationships at the centre of our interactions with students and believe that students who have meaningful relationships in school are more connected to the school community. This enables our students to feel safe to take risks in their learning and their development as young people.”

The team at Wetherby have huge ambitions for every student, to not only succeed in their exams but to continue achieving long after school. They are committed to helping your child find the right start in life, and unlocking their potential to a bright future.

The school has four core values, which, says Ms Jefferson, helps students to feel safe, happy and supported, and gives them the perfect environment in which to thrive.

These four values include:

Know our children well - making each child feel a valued member of the community and known as people as well as students.

Enjoy and aspire - what happens outside the classroom is every bit as important, so Wetherby provides a huge array of opportunities to inspire the cohort, including excellent extra-curricular events.

Character for achievement - building character: this helps students thrive at school, attain the exam results they want and get them set for a world beyond school.

Partners in learning - working in partnership with parents and care givers. A strong relationship between home and school, says Ms Jefferson, is vital to each child’s development.

The Headteacher says she is particularly proud of the latest OFSTED inspection, where it was noted that the school is ‘inclusive’ with every pupil valued and cared for, that work on personal development and welfare is ‘outstanding, and that the friendly and courteous pupils were immensely proud of their school.

Ms Jefferson wants as many local parents and care givers to meet the staff and ‘fantastic students’.

The event takes place on September 28, with presentations at 6pm and 7pm.
