Praise for area’s schools and parents

Schools and colleges in the Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet area were among those thanked for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Selby District Council Scrutiny Committee welcomed education representatives to a virtual meeting and thanked them on behalf of the Council for all their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic which saw schools closed to many.

Coun Steve Shaw Wright, Chair of the Scrutiny Committee, said: “I want to thank all the staff at our district’s schools and colleges for the way they have pulled together to ensure students continued to receive the education they deserve.

“Their hard work and ability to adapt quickly to changes in restrictions throughout the pandemic, has been vital for the children of Selby district.

“I would also like to thank parents and carers for their commitment to home schooling.

“Following guidance has meant that many people are working from home, the added pressure of home schooling will have no doubt been difficult.”

Developments discussed at the meeting included expansion works at Sherburn Hungate.

Tim Moat, Director of Communications and Development at Ebor Academy Trust which run many academies throughout the Selby district added: “We also welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss education strategy with colleagues from across the sector.

“It is of enormous benefit to learners that those responsible for our schools have this overview and it emphasises our belief that progress is best achieved by working together.”
