New head girl makes it a sister double act

A student from Scarcroft will be following in her sister's footsteps when she takes on the role of head girl at The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL).

Year 12 student Eve Munro is one of a team of four head girls and boys selected to make up the student leadership team for 2016/17 at GSAL.

She will be taking over from her sister Libby who has been head girl for the last year, and admits to an element of sibling rivalry between the sisters.

Eve said: “I originally thought the role wasn’t for me, but seeing Libby do it made me want it too, and to do it even better. Because we’re only a year apart it’s hard to avoid direct comparisons so I do put pressure on myself.

“The main motivation for me as head girl though is the opportunity to represent what GSAL has to offer and to be a good ambassador for the school.”

Joining Eve on GSAL’s student leadership team will be Felicity Greenfield, from Bramhope, Toby Hillery, from Harewood, and Oliver Robinson from East Keswick.

The four were appointed after a rigorous selection process in which they had to earn nomination, write a manifesto, appeal to the electorate – in this instance fellow students and staff – and prove their calibre to the school’s senior management team at a final interview.

Toby said: “We found the selection process challenging with 16 shortlisted candidates who were all very strong, however it was a valuable experience and good preparation for university and job interviews.”

The leadership team’s responsibilities will include representing the school on formal occasions, liaising with staff on student issues and building links between senior and younger ages.
