The driver was uninjured and the white Ford transit van was not badly damaged in the bizarre crash on Tuesday, after West Midlands Fire Service used winches to free them both.
Accident in Birmingham
Shoppers were stunned as the drama unfolded at the Tesco Superstore in Spring Hill, Hockley, Birmingham.
Staff even placed a cordon of shopping trolleys around the van to make the scene safe while the driver put on his hazard lights.
A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Ladywood Fire Station and our technical rescue unit have attended Tesco in Spring Hill at 12:54 today, after a van became wedged in a car park.
“No persons were trapped or injured and the vehicle was removed using winches. A structural engineer confirmed the building was safe.”
After the fire service posted details of the incident on social media, social media users were quick to mock the dopey motorist.
Lynn Foxall wrote on Facebook “How? Just…how?” while Barbara Flatley put “Omg that’s just nuts. As if he tried?”
Another Twitter user asked: “How is this even possible?”
Steve Hartley added: “Whats the idea of the shopping trollies [place in a cordon around the van]…in case someone doesn’t see the van!”
Berni Ryan Wonder said: “Wonder if he got his Tesco clubpoints, three extra for that parking.”
Nicola Bottomley tweeted: “Should’ve gone to spec savers!”
