The leasehold for Salsa Posada, a 60-cover Mexican restaurant on Mayfield Grove, is on the market with specialist property company Christie & Co for £60,000.

Nicola Triffitt of The Damn Yankee Co, which has owned the business for the last 14 years, said that she and husband Mick had very much enjoyed running Salsa Posada for the last 14 years, but that the time was right to sell.

“Generations of customers have been coming since it opened 29 years ago so it has a lot of history. We now feel it’s time to sell so we can focus more on our new and other existing businesses.”

The Damn Yankee Co also owns The Damn Yankee restaurant, the Cattlemen’s Association on Cheltenham Parade and the recently opened Nutrition Joe’s, an offshoot of Gambaru gym, which is owned by Ms Triffitt’s brother, Jonathan Walker.

Ms Triffitt added: “We’d like the business to carry on as Salsa Posada; it’s got so many customers who have been going for many years. It’s sad, but as a business it’s just too much to cope with four businesses. We want to try and keep things small.”

She said that restaurants like Salsa Posada, which last year turned over £267,065, faced tough competition in Harrogate’s increasingly crowded food and drink marketplace.

“I think we’re reaching saturation point in Harrogate. The Tour de France [in 2014] really put us on the map, but I’ve counted 15 new restaurants in the town since then, and there are probably more.”

Nevertheless, she stressed that there were no plans to sell any of the company’s other businesses.

Oliver Brown, who is handling the sale of Salsa Posada from Christie & Co’s Leeds office, said: “Demand for businesses in Harrogate is significant, and this property has come to market with a great backbone of solid trade and a very reasonable rent for the size and location.

“With location playing a key role in leasehold asking prices, Salsa Posada presents very good value within a context of rising prices and limited opportunity.”

Christie & Co noted that the restaurant had low wage and rental costs, and was in a prime and vibrant location.
