'Outstanding' report for Harrogate care home

A Harrogate care home in the Harlow area says it is thrilled by the latest ratings it has received.

Located on leafy Manor Road in its own grounds near Harlow Oval, The Gatehouse says its is delighted by its most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report which recognises that the home and its staff team deliver outstanding care.

The home manager is Chrissie Medway Steel but she is keen to point out that the home has achieved this goal through team work and shared commitment to be the best.

She said: "CQC have recognised that there is strong organisation and leadership within the service which promotes a person-centred culture and focussed on providing high-quality care to meet people's needs and improve their quality of life."

The Care Quality Commission monitors, inspect and regulate health and social care services. It publish what it finds, including ratings to help people choose care.

The CQC report itself states: “There was an extremely strong person-centred culture within the service.

"Staff consistently recognised what was important to people and provided outstanding, caring support to help them meet their needs.

"People felt empowered to express their wishes and views knowing staff would respond with compassion and kindness. Staff consistently treated people with dignity and respect.”

During the inspection, residents, relative and health professionals were asked for their opinions of the home.

They told the CQC that staff were "absolutely wonderful", "fantastic" and "brilliant".

A relative said, "The staff are fantastic, they look after mum very well. I have recommended this place to so many people."

The Gatehouse says it prides itself as having a very strong and distinctive person-centred culture within the service.

Staff were highly motivated; they worked tirelessly to understand what was important to people and support them to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

But The Gatehouse manager says her team will not be resting on their laurels.

Chrissie Medway Steel said: “there is always more to be done and improvements to be made but it is fabulous to have CQC recognise how hard we work.”
