Belzona is a finalist in three categories of the Harrogate Business Excellence Awards. The company is a global designer and manufacturer of polymeric repair and protection materials – which means it innovates and produces repair materials and protective coatings for machinery, equipment, buildings and other structures.

The Awards include Sustainability; Business in the Community and Staff Health and Wellfare.

Sustainability

Since 1952, Belzona has supported a circular economic business model by helping clients to avoid asset decommissioning and replacement and instead, has actively improved their assets using industrial coatings and repair composites to enhance longevity, durability and performance. In turn, the Belzona solution, facilitated by a global team of 140 Distributors across 60 countries, helps to support a greener future for the planet, which is absolutely fundamental to Belzona’s ethos.

Indeed, as industrial sectors are now investing more in environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies and circularising their businesses to become increasingly sustainable, in line with this, in 2022, Belzona launched a three-year Business Plan with one of the strategic goals being: ‘To be recognised as an environmental champion by customers and staff’.

Business in the Community

Belzona staff members have taken part in numerous volunteering and fundraising activities over the years. To support staff members’ participation in volunteering opportunities within the local community, Belzona formed the 1% Club. This enables employees to be given paid leave (up to 1 per cent of their annual working time, or three days per year for most full-time staff) to spend volunteering at local causes.

Examples of where staff have volunteered in the past include Henry Smith, UK Technical Supervisor, who took part in the interview process for the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. Also, Chloe Hirst visited her old Sixth Form to talk to students about her career as a Senior Copywriter.

Health and Wellbeing Programme

Whether it’s by supporting staff members through the Mental Health & Wellbeing Committee, celebrating their work with staff recognition schemes, or motivating them with staff events (including a carnival themed summer party) and regular pick-me-ups, Belzona is leading the way with its health and wellbeing programme.

Commenting on Belzona’s busy events calendar, Corporate Development Manager, Laura Bell, said: “For me, what sets Belzona apart from other companies is the investment made into celebrating and motivating staff members through regular activities and events held throughout the year.”

She continued: “We have a whole Department, ‘Corporate Development’, which is dedicated to organising and hosting these events. They are a great opportunity for everyone to get together and enjoy spending time together in a more informal environment. In turn, this helps to strengthen working relationships and gives staff members a real sense of belonging within the business – all of which is integral to promoting positive health and wellbeing amongst staff members.”

Award Ceremony

The winners will be announced at a black tie ceremony held at the Pavilions of Harrogate on May 25.
