The Harrogate art world is coming alive again with a range of new exhibitions of major significance being launched.

Messums is set to launch the debut exhibition of fashion-designer-turned-artist Graeme Black who has switched from the glamour of the highest echelons of the fashion industry working for Georgio Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo and Hugo Boss in London, Milan and Florence to living sustainably in the Yorkshire Dales working as full time painter of trees while reforesting and rewilding the property he owns in Raydale.

His show at the gallery on James Street from Saturday, May 8 will coincide with another new exhibition, this time the 3D experience of furniture and household items by acclaimed Yorkshire furniture maker Robert Thompson’s Ltd the Mousman of Kilburn.

Meanwhile, RedHouse Originals, the contemporary and modern art gallery on Cheltenham Mount, has re-opened with a collection of new vibrant abstracts by snowboarder, artist and all round creative power-house Schoph, (pictured),the British artist who has enjoyed a meteoric rise to success in recent years.

The Quarantine Paintings’ were created during the first national lockdown in 2020, and are these ten new abstract paintings are Schoph’s largest and most involved works to date.

New art will also be on display at RedHouse from the studios of Dan Baldwin, Thomas James Butler, Christian Furr, Horace Panter, Candie Payne, David Rusbatch and Seen.

Among the other art galleries in Harrogate which have re-opened or are preparing to, are the Walker Galleries on Montpellier Parade and Walker Galleries and Castle Fine Art, both of which can be found on James Street.
