Staff with a flair for foreign languages at Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms are going global for the Tour de France.

A video produced by staff aims to encourage colleagues to learn a number of greetings in different languages, in a bid to make the thousands of visitors expected in the district this July for le Tour feel welcome.

Staff from the 1,400 strong family business of bakers, chocolatiers, tea tasters, coffee roasters, waitresses, number crunchers and van drivers have pooled their linguistic talents to produce the video.

Bettys training manager, Bekki Simpson, said: “Bettys is well known for its warm Yorkshire welcome and we felt that the world’s greatest cycle race coming to town was just the occasion to underline our reputation as the perfect host.

“This to us meant going the extra mile and learning to say a few friendly words in different languages.”

Employees at Bettys & Taylors contributed with phrases including Italian, French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Polish.

Bettys & Taylors is a traditional family business based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with six Bettys Café Tea Rooms and a tea and coffee merchants, Taylors of Harrogate who are the producers of Yorkshire Tea.
