Harrogate Comedy Festival enjoyed a great first week - and things look set to get better - and funnier in the seven days ahead at Harrogate Theatre and the Royal Hall.

As well as the final heat of its exciting Harrogate Comedy Festival Comedian of the Year competition tonight, Thursday at 9pm, there’s a whole host of big names from TV and the Edinburgh Fringe performing.

The UK’s favourite political activist and comedian Mark Thomas appears at the theatre tonight, Thursday with his unusually personal show Bravo Figaro, about his dad who is suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, and how Mark put on an opera for him in his bungalow.

Highly-sought after comedian The Boy With Tape On His Face will be playing at Harrogate Theatre this Sunday, October 14.

Boasting a unique blend of stand-up comedy, mime, vaudeville and puppetry, The Boy With Tape On His Face was the runaway hit of the Edinburgh Fringe in 2010 and a smash hit sell out when he returned for a limited run in 2011

Highly-rated comedy cabaret duo Frisky and Mannish, who mash up pop songs including Rihanna’s, Rude Boy in the style of the Bee Gees, are performing on Tuesday, October 16 at Harrogate Theatre.

The very funny and very lovely Rob Rouse, star of ITV’s Mad Mad World, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Dave’s One Night Stand, Spoons, The Friday Night Project, Celebrity Juice and a whole host of other TV and radio programmes, will be bringing his brand new show Life Sentences to the Harrogate Theatre Studio next Tuesday, October 16.

And finally, Josie Long brings her award-nominated show Romance and Adventure to the Harrogate Theatre next Wednesday, October 17.

This year was the third year in a row that Josie was nominated for the prestigious Foster’s Comedy Award after winning the (then Perrier) Newcomer Award in 2006.

As always, her reviews this year were fantastic and Josie has now firmly established herself as one of the UK’s leading political comedians.
