An annual mini season of plays which puts Yorkshire theatre talent in the limelight is back at Harrogate Theatre.

The month-long All Points North returns after a successful launch last year in Harrogate proved that we do truly live in god’s own country when it comes to talent on stage.

This time it promises to be even bigger and broader than before, thanks to Northern Broadsides, Rich Seam Theatre, Nick Lane, Matthew Booth, John Godber, Reform Theatre and Elemental.

Boasting two world premieres, two major revivals and one exciting new play kicking off its debut tour, the second All Points North festival will run from next Tuesday, September 2 to Saturday, September 28.

Highlights are many, too many to list, so here’s just a few of them:

Northern Broadsides returns, premiering The Grand Gesture, another excellent social comedy.

Yorkshire company Rich Seam Theatre presents the premiere of Royal Flush, a new Nick Lane comic play about Yorkshire-born loo hero Thomas Crapper.

Renowned playwright and Yorkshire institution John Godber revives Teechers, his classic look at education.

Reform Theatre bring Stand, David Bown’s comedy of manners and football, back onto the pitch.

Brand new troupe Elemental Theatre Company take Sarah Wallis’s The Rain King on its first ever tour, kicking off upstairs in in Harrogate Theatre Studio.

Perhaps the most anticipated show is the reunion of Northern Broadsides associate director Conrad Nelson and playwright Deborah McAndrew for new production The Grand Gesture.

Based on Nikolai Erdman’s superb 1928 satire, The Suicide, it’s been freely adapted for maximum modern relevance - and humour.

Running from next Friday, September 6 to Saturday, September 21, it’s full of their trademark brand of Northern inventiveness, humour and original music.

Tickets for all the shows in the All Points North season can be booked securely online at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk or through the Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502116.
