EXCITEMENT is building as rehearsals and preparations start in earnest for the forthcoming White Rose Winter Music Festival at Harewood House.

Running from November 17-19, organisers say they are looking forward to an even better programme of music in their new home this year.

Shan Robinson, one of the festival’s directors, said: “The team at Harewood House have been fantastic helping us to create a really special event at our new venue. The Pavilion theatre will be stunning with the dramatic, illuminated backdrop of the house.”

A celebration of music for all tastes. Robinson added that she was particularly pleased that this year’s festival will include the winners of the recenty Yorkshire’s Got Young Talent competition.

“It will be especially rewarding to see our local winners, Ravi Patel of Harrogate Grammar School and Emma Hart from St Aidans & St John Fisher Sixth Form show off their voices when they debut on the opening night with our professional opera singers.”

The Wwinter auditorium will be created within the Pavilion on the North Front Lawn, Harewood House’s permanent event space which enjoys spectacular views overlooking the illuminated house.

The heated auditorium will house a foyer bar and a 900-seat auditorium with an adjoining backstage VIP marquee to accommodate the VIP hospitality guests.

This year’s programme is tailored to classical music enthusiasts and opera fans with Night at the Opera and Night at the Proms.

Nick Sales will be tenor soloist performing in both shows.

He said: “It’s a real thrill to have been invited to perform at this most prestigious of Yorkshire venues.

“The programme for A Night at the Opera is really exciting, containing such wonderful contrasts, exploring so many different emotions and presenting so many favourite pieces.

“I’m particularly looking forward to performing the flower song from Carmen and then for the Saturday’s Proms concert Pucini’s Nessun Dorma.”

There will also be a night of classic show tunes entitled Night in the West End.

The stage and surround sound and lighting will be managed again by Harrogate-based audio visual specialists FTAV, who were widely praised for the atmospheric effects they created last year at Ripley Castle.
