A CHART-topping boy band will perform in the grounds of a 15th century castle near Harrogate this summer.
The Wanted, a five-strong group who last week became the highest charting UK boy band ever in the US when Glad You Came hit number five in the Billboard Hot 100, will play at Ripley Castle on Sunday, July 15.
The venue already plays hosts to numerous classical concerts, including regular gigs by Jools Holland, and is the home of Sprite Productions which performs Shakespeare in the grounds each summer. It has also previously welcomed pop acts Liberty X and Blue, as well as popular opera singer Katherine Jenkins.
Sir Thomas Ingilby, whose family has owned Ripley Castle for 700 years, said: “There could be two fairly contrasting evenings: the Last Night of the Proms is returning on the Saturday after an absence of two years.
“That will attract an older and family audience, and clearly The Wanted will appeal to a younger audience.”
Sir Thomas said there were no plans to change the variety of acts on offer or expand to longer events, adding: “We aren’t going down the Glastonbury route!”
Asked if he was a fan of the band, he said: “I think I’m a bit too old! But my children tell me they are very popular.”
The Wanted, who have two number one singles under their belts adn two hit albums, released the single Gold Forever in aid of Comic Relief last year.
