FORMER chairman of Harrogate Operatic Players, Christine Littlewood is delighted to be playing the role of the Mother Abbess in their forthcoming production of The Sound Of Music at Harrogate Theatre.
Christine joined the players in 1975 and has played a succession of principal roles since that time.
One of her favourite parts was Maria in The Sound of Music when the Players performed the show in March 1982, exactly 30 years ago.
In this production because she understands so well the relationship between Maria and the Mother Abbess. Maria reminds the Mother Abbess of herself at that age having to make the difficult decision of “how to spend God’s love”.
Her decision was, of course, different to Maria’s as expressed in the song Climb Every Mountain.
The Abbess helps Maria to make her own choices when she realises Maria is in love with Captain Von Trapp.
The Sound of Music runs from Tuesday, March 20-Saturday, March 24.
