Ripon’s Horn Blower Brass Band has been presented with an award for their performance at the National Festival of Music for Youth.

The group were given the Musicians’ Union Ensembles Award for their performance at Birmingham Conservatoire’s Recital Hall as part of the Festival.

The group performed three pieces, Do Whatcha Wanna, Can’t Hold Me Back and Sweet Dreams.

Now in its 42nd year, the National Festival showcases the youth music scene, with a wide range of music.

Across the six days, young musicians from across the country made their way to Birmingham to perform at some of the city’s premier venues.

Music Mentors Damien Harron and Sarah Watts who presented the award said: “The group had real commitment to the performance. They had a sense of musical energy, and real dynamism within the group and were rhythmically very tight.”

Alongside Horn Blower Brass Band, 393 other groups are performing live to audiences. Judith Webster, Chief Executive of Music for Youth said: “The festival is non competitive and all about participation, enjoyment, achievement and celebrating great music.”
