Harrogate Theatre is delighted to announce the launch of Young Reviewers in association with the Harrogate Advertiser Series.
This scheme sees local secondary schools nominating a pupil to write reviews of shows at Harrogate Theatre.
The reviews will be uploaded to the Harrogate Theatre website, with the best written review of each production published in the Harrogate Advertiser Series.
Hannah Draper, Education Workshop Leader, at Harrogate Theatre said: “It’s a great way for young people to get their writing noticed and will add an extra edge to their CV. We’re also really excited to find out what young people think of our programming.”
Participants of Young Reviewers will see one show per term for an academic year and will be mentored along the way by Graham Chalmers, Weekend Editor at Harrogate Advertiser and Michaela Noonan, Harrogate Theatre’s Press and PR Officer.
Michaela said: “Before I joined Harrogate Theatre I worked as an arts journalist for more than 10 years, including a seven-year stint as arts editor of Metro Yorkshire. I would have loved to have taken part in a scheme like this when I was their age and I’m really looking forward to helping them find and develop their individual writing styles.”
Schools currently taking part in the scheme include Grammar School at Leeds, Harrogate College, Harrogate Grammar School, Harrogate High School, Harrogate Ladies College and King James ‘s School in Knaresborough.
If you would like your school to take part, you are advised to ask your drama or English teacher to contact Hannah Draper at the theatre.
The first task for the Young Reviewers is to give their verdict on Harrogate’s truly traditional pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk.
