HEY, Joe, fans of 60s rock giant Jimi Hendrix have the chance to win a superb Hendrix ‘goodie bag’ courtesy of hip Harrogate art gallery RedHouse Originals.

It ties into its recent brilliant exhibition of photographs of the legendary guitarist taken in 1967 at Mason’s Yard in London by esteemed rock music photographer Gered Mankowitz who visited in person during Harrogate International Festival Fringe.

Called The Experience for the way Mankowitz has manipulated his original pictures in a stunning way, to be in with a chance of winning Jimi Hendrix & The Experience-themed Goodie Bag, which contains a signed copy of the beautiful exhibition book, simply answer the following question:

Q. What was Hendrix’s famous double album of 1968 entitled?

ONE of Leeds’ best alt-indie-pop bands, who used to be regular visitors to Harrogate for Charm nights at The Blues Bar and The Tube, have opened up a new career for themselves in the world of education.

Being 747, led by talented songwriter Dave Cooke, originally did a few songs themed on the creation of the world from the dinosaurs onwards as part of a tongue-in-cheek idea for a possible concept album.

Having aired a couple of tracks at the Blues Bar a good five or six years ago it seems the three-piece got serious on the idea and went on to not only produce the album, called Amoeba to Zebra, but a multi-media live show, too.

So popular has this Rick Wakemen on ice meets Open University musical presentation become in schools across Yorkshire that the boys are performing at the British Science Festival at The Salt Building, Shipley College at Saltaire this Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm.

MONTEYS rocks! Excellent local metal band Waking Theo play a live show at this popular Harrogate music bar in The Ginnel this weekend.

Appearing live with them on Sunday night’s bill from 7pm will be Confined Within, Arcite and Decayed Messiah.

LASTLY but not leastly (is there such a saying, surely not) one of Harrogate’s longest-running dance-electronic-breaks outfit 601 have some new recordings out now. I know this purely because I spotted it through Facebook, though sadly all I was able to gleen was that it’s an EP and it’s called Rockers.

Ho, wait a moment, I think there’s more info on it at www.beatport.com if you just give me a moment. . .
