LAST year may have been a thoroughly successful one for Harrogate’s popular family of choirs which makes up Rock Up and Sing! but 2012 promises to be an even more eventful.
Under the leadership of musical director Rhiannon Gayle, this ever-developing choir’s list of achievements for 2011 included the following:
Fronting the Cancer Research UK Race for Life events which took place in spring and summer, performing their first-ever massed choir concert in June, Simply Rock Up and Sing with 300 voices from all four choirs on stage at the Yorkshire Event Centre, raising £5,000 for Parkinsons UK charity with a performance at Harrogate’s Royal Hall in November and recording at Abbey Road Studios the same month.
The choir has started on the front foot in 2012. This year has already seen Rock Up and Sing! opening its new Rock Up Room on Claro Road in Harrogate and it is also about to launch a new Wedding and special events choir.
The Rock Up Room is a purpose-built large rehearsal space for the three Harrogate choirs with a separate office space for the team.
Rhiannon said: “We are very excited about this new venture and have been busy preparing for its launch.
“I am sure that the Choirs will love having their own Rock Up Home.
“We are also hoping that other groups and societies in our area may be able to use the space and welcome any enquiries.”
In response to popular demand, bookings are now being taken for the Wedding and special events Choir, Rock Up and Sing For You.
Rhiannon is piloting a new eight-week Youth choir on Mondays starting on January 30 and various workshops will be taking place.
There will also be rehearsals in the new term for the combined Rock Up choirs as they prepare a new repertoire for their next big massed concert in Harrogate in July.
