Children are being offered a unique chance to spend an afternoon rehearsing and singing with the Ripon Cathedral Choir as part of an open day
Youngsters aged six to 11 are invited to register for the choir open day –taking place on Sunday, April 21, from 1 - 4.30pm – which also includes guided tours offering a glimpse behind the scenes at the cathedral.
Andrew Bryden, the director of music of Ripon Cathedral, said: “This is a great opportunity for girls and boys to have the experience of singing with highly trained musicians in an ancient and beautiful building, to meet the choristers, and most importantly have lots of fun.
“There will also be a free goody bag for all the children who participate.“
While children are rehearsing with the cathedral musicians, parents can enjoy refreshments and view presentations about the cathedral and the choir.
The afternoon will conclude with an open Cathedral Choir rehearsal for all to attend, followed by Evensong sung by the children and the choir.
Girls and boys who sing in the Cathedral Choir attend a variety of schools in Ripon and the local area. The musical training they receive is free, including singing lessons and music theory.
Those wishing to attend and participate in the choir open day need to register in advance by telephoning Ripon Cathedral Music Department on 01765 603496, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or visiting the cathedral’s website – www.riponcathedral.org.uk
