Holy moly - The Strypes are playing Harrogate tonight!

The Strypes on the cover of their debut album Snapshot.

The music broadcasting legend will be welcoming The Strypes on stage at Warehouse Recording Co in Harrogate in a show whose cracking line-up also includes Chris Difford of Squeeze.

Influenced by the 60s blues boom and the 70s pub rock boom, The Strypes are a high-octane four-piece r'n'b garage band from Ireland who have blazed their way across the music scene since releasing debut album Snapshot in 2013 as mere teenagers.

Also playing in the live room of these impressive Harrogate studios in this ticket-only gig which starts at 7.30pm is talented singer-songwriter Robbie Cavanagh and his band.

All-in-all, it's an exciting weekend for live music fans in Harrogate.

Fans of classic 90s indie music – and a little alt folk – have a treat at another Harrogate venue this Sunday night.

Chris Helme will be presenting both his music sides in a free gig at award-winning bar Ten Devonshire Place off Skipton Road – the Love is the Law hit era of the Seahorses and the reflective acoustic era of his other band The Yards.

Support come from local acts Ben Sowden and The Superlatives.

There’s more local music at Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough tomorrow night when a free evening of punk rock takes place starring The 7ups, FwF and Jim Thistlethwaite.

The same night also sees The Stray Blues Band appear at Monteys Rock Café in Harrogate.

And that’s not to forget live music in Knaresborough and the rest of the district.

Perhaps the most striking thing is that all of these gigs are taking place in smaller, independent enterprises?
