Ripon employer Wolseley UK is once again helping to sponsor this year’s Great Ripon Raft Race which is taking place in August.
Held annually at the canal basin on Boroughbridge Road, the Great Ripon Raft Race – organised by charity Scuba Diving for All – sees teams of four compete on home-built rafts.
The race is the main fundraiser for the charity, which works with people with disabilities helping them to swim and learn to scuba dive with a team of qualified volunteers.
This year’s race takes place on Saturday, August 25, with heats starting at 10am and continuing throughout the day until the grand final in the afternoon.
Wolseley UK is sponsoring the bath races, which can be entered on the day in teams of two and sees people paddle two specially constructed Wolseley UK baths – connected side-by-side catamaran-style – for victory.
Nik Browne, head of HR Shared Services, Wolseley UK, said: “We are proud to be associated with this community event, which has become a highlight in the local calendar and raises money for a worthy cause.
“The raft race grows in popularity every year and we would like to encourage people to get building their rafts. With all the rain we’ve been having, they might just come in handy anyway!”
Entry to the race for spectators is free and all proceeds from the day will go towards the running costs of Scuba Diving For All for its work with disabled people of all ages.
