Grassington Festival has unveiled its line-up for this June’s 15-day arts jamboree of music and more.
Headliners in this year of the Tour de France include Boomtown Rats, soul singer Heather Small, and ex-Rolling Stone, Bill Wyman with The Rhythm Kings.
The Boomtown Rats will be playing in the Festival Marquee on Friday, June 27, though lead singer Bob Geldof himself is probably not thinking much of music right now after the recent tragic death of his daughter Peaches.
Earlier in proceedings, the festival kicks off with a big opening night party on Friday, June 13 with The Troggs and Funkin’ Massive Party Band.
This multi-arts festival has a lot more than pop music.
From comedy to spoken word, food to film, it’s Grassington Festival’s broadest, hottest programme to date.
There’s star TV comedian Omid Djalili, the spine-tingling voices of Only Men Aloud, a gala concert with Nicholas Daniel and the Carducci String Quartet, opera singer Bone Boneventura, the premiere of local filmmakworld er, Geoff Kerr’s film The Settlement plus the WordLab: Think While You Ink - an experimental print space for the community, led by artist printmaker Helen Peyton featuring an array of writers and broadcasters such as Kate Adie.
The ever-popular Food Festivalwill also return in a celebration of Yorkshire food, including Northern Dales Farmers Market.
2014 promises to be an extra-special year for Yorkshire, and an extra-special year for Grassington Festival.
Yorkshire Festival 2014 is 100 days of world-class art and culture in the run up to the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, and Grassington Festival is part of several of the 47 projects chosen.
Those projects include The Tour of Infinite Possibility with top indie band Hope & Social who will be playing Grassington.
