A SCARECROW display forming part of the harvest celebrations at Boroughbridge Methodist Church has helped raise more than £1,000.

The money raised by the three-day event – which featured 17 scarecrows made by community groups and businesses, along with meals and refreshments served to visitors – will be split between the church’s funds and Christian Aid for Relief in Africa.

Rev Dr Pat Malham said: “We had about 170 people come through during the weekend and the scarecrows put a smile on people’s faces. We had a lot of people come into the church who had never been before and it felt very much a community event.”
