THRILLS and spills will be the order of the day when the sixth annual Great Ripon Raft Race takes place at the city’s canal basin.

Organised by charity Scuba Diving for All, which works with people of all ages who have physical and learning difficulties, the popular event takes place on Saturday, August 27.

Trevor White, from the charity, said: “It’s a fun day out for everyone and all the profits go to the running costs of Scuba Diving for All which needs £13,000 a year to keep going.”

There will also be bath races where teams can enter on the day with vessels and trophies provided by Ripon firm Wolseley.

On land, there will be stalls and new for this year a climbing wall. Refreshments will be served all day.

The event runs from 9am to 4.30pm with the grand final at 3.30pm.

Teams-of-four wanting to enter contact Alistair Moffat on 07590 490628 or email thegreatriponraftrace@hotmail.com.

Entry is £15 per team and the team needs a home-made raft.
