The organisers of the Great Ripon Raft Race – charity Scuba Diving for All – is inviting teams to enter this year’s event taking place over the August bank holiday weekend.
It will be held at the Canal Basin, on Boroughbridge Road, on Saturday, August 25, with heats starting at 10am and carrying on thoughout the day with the grand final in the late afternoon.
As well as the raft race heats there will be bath races which can be entered on the day where competitors compete in two bath tubs fastened side-by-side to make a catamaran – all you need is a team of two. For a more sedate ride on the canal there is also a swan pedalo loaned by Lightwater Valley theme park.
On dry land barbecued food will be served all day plus hot and cold drinks and ice creams. There are also stalls and sideshows, from lucky dips to a flight simulator and climbing wall.
Entry for spectators is free and all proceeds from the day will go towards the running costs of Scuba Diving For All for its work with disabled people of all ages.
l To enter the raft race costs £15 and you need a crew of four and your own raft. For an entry form contact Heather Morris on 01765 601215 or 07855 742005.
