A Christmas-themed design competition is being held for children with the winner getting to switch on Ripon’s festive lights.

Discover Ripon and the city’s library have teamed up to invite children aged seven to 11 to design a picture with the theme of Christmas in Ripon, showing how they would like to see Ripon decorated for Christmas.

The winner of the competition will be the “celebrity” to help Father Christmas switch on the Ripon Christmas Lights on the market square on Saturday, November 23, at 6pm.

Entries should be A4 in size and the pictures can be submitted to Ripon Library from October 14 until the deadline day, Saturday, October 26. The winner will be decided by a public vote held from Monday, October 28 until Saturday, November 2.

Discover Ripon will arrange for the winner alongside Father Christmas and the three runners-up to arrive in style by horse and carriage at the market square. The winning picture will also appear as part of the Ripon decorations.
