A bridal boutique in Boroughbridge has featured in an American reality sho when the programmme’s stars turned to the shop for help planning their wedding.

Curvy Bridal on Fishergate was filmed for the hit US programme My Big Redneck Vacation – similar to the British programme My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding – and the show is also due to air in Europe.

The programme follows the experiences of four country families from Louisiana on their holidays, and series two focuses on the UK.

The families were staying at Broughton Hall, near Skipton, and when one couple decided they wanted to marry there while they were in the UK the Boroughbridge shop was approached to supply the all-important dress for bride Tammy.

Owner Louise Leong said: “The television company contacted me on recommendation from The Wedding Affair, the Yorkshire weddings website.”

“Everything was being organised in a very short timescale, but we were delighted to help. Tammy wanted a very British, elegant wedding but with a big hint of Louisiana – lots of bling, lots of partying and no formal speeches!”

The bride-to-be – with film crew in tow – visited the Fishergate salon and tried on several dresses. She was also tempted by the ‘Weddington’ boots – silver wellies with bridal decoration and sparkles – had she not already settled on her red cowboy boots.

“The whole day was quite surreal – it was interesting to see how a reality show really works,” said Louise.

“We were pushed to say things that highlighted the differences between UK and US weddings, whereas really nothing shocks us and we’d never judge anybody for what they wanted – as a bride you need to put your own personality into your wedding so if she wants red sequinned cowboy boots and bling everywhere, that’s fine by us!”

She added: “The important thing is that Tammy had a lovely day and found her perfect dress. She even invited the Curvy Bridal team to the wedding, which was an honour – but sadly we had to decline as we were already fully booked on the day with helping our other brides.”
