Heritage veg on the menu at museum

Heritage produce grown in the kitchen garden of Ripon’s Workhouse Museum is set to be dished up to diners in a collaboration with one of the city’s restaurateurs.

Food such as Dog’s Snout apples and Fat Lazy Blond lettuce will be on the menu for the Workhouse Garden Dinner Party to be held at the Allhallowgate venue on Saturday, August 16, from 6pm, in conjunction with chef Matthew Lockwood of Lockwoods Restaurant.

The outdoor supper (to be held under cover if the weather is poor) will feature a three-course platter style menu designed and prepared by Lockwoods’ chefs which will showcase the best of heritage seasonal produce freshly picked from the Workhouse kitchen garden in this bring your own drinks event.

Matthew said: “This exciting collaboration allows us to demonstrate different ways of using heirloom vegetables to create contemporary seasonal cuisine.”

The workhouse garden was established in the 1850s to provide vegetables and make the workhouse self-sufficient.

The meal costs £35 per person.
