Wetherby RUFC continued their winning streak with an adventurous 36-19 victory against Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Silver Trophy at Grange Park.

Wetherby scored six tries in a dominant first 60 minutes.

The hosts started the scoring 10 minutes in when good passing put youngster Will Jefferson in for a try, which Alex Dus converted.

Jack Wray followed when he forced his way over wide out after a good forward drive.

The Reds kept throwing the ball about and Robbie Hardy made it three tries after half an hour, Dus again converting.

Wetherby led by 17 points at the break but immediately after the restart, Wenslseydale’s full back scythed through the Wetherby defence running almost the length of the field.

The Reds hit back quickly when nice handling created another try.

The visitors came back and exerted some pressure on the home line.

But man of the match Craig Lovelock’s clearance bounced kindly and the full-back Johnny Wheatley ran 50 metres to score a converted try.

Wetherby completed their scoring after 57 minutes when Robbie Hardy collected a clearance from Wensleydale and forced his way over under the posts, Alex Dus obliged with the kick.

The hosts then switched off and Wensleydale ran in two good tries late on.

The Reds return to Yorkshire Four action on Saturday when they go to York RI.
