THEY have secured their Yorkshire Two status for another year as the club prepares to celebrate its 125th anniversary, and now Ripon coach Al Norrie wants two wins to end the season on a positive note.

Needing just one point to secure rugby in the same division next term, Ripon made sure with a four-try 29-5 bonus win over a spirited Goole side on Saturday.

Next is the visit of already relegated Moortown tomorrow (3pm ko).

“The pressure is off now, the lads can just go out there and really enjoy themselves,” said Norrie.

“I want to win the last two games and feel positive about things. It’s something to build on for next season.”

On Saturday, Ripon opened the scoring after seven minutes with a try by Gareth Osborne. But the visitors levelled things ten minutes later with a score of their own after good work by their pack.

A penalty by McAra and another try, this time by Mark Spilman, gave the home side a 15-5 half-time lead.

Spilman added another try soon after half time and Adam Scott-Paul completed the scoring with a try on 22 minutes.

Ripon’s backs always looked dangerous with ball in hand and produced flashes of attractive rugby, but all too often slow ball limited their opportunities.

Ripon still have two league games to play and with both at home, have a chance of finishing the season with a flourish although selection becomes a problem with five or more players defecting to the cricket field.

Ripon Wakemen defeated their Harrogate counterparts, the Pirates 24-13. Try scorers were Williamson, Hudson, Champion and Jenkins. Conversions were by Campbell and Aylward.
