Harrogate RUFC have been hit by injury to flamboyant winger Steve Parsons as the start of the season looms on Saturday.

The speedster, who rejoined ‘Gate after a stint at London side Rosslyn Park, scored a try in Saturday’s pre-season 26-13 defeat at National One side Hull Ionians.

But he finished the match sidelined with a broken hand and is likely to miss the first month of the campaign alongside prop Jimmy Browne.

Director of Rugby Mike Aspinall admitted the back’s loss was a set-back ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stourbridge (3pm).

“Steve’s a very serious attacking threat,” he said.

“He’ll be a big loss but there’s an opportunity for others. I look forward to seeing someone else step up.”

Aspinall hinted Barry Frost, Harry Parrish or Ed Maslaveckas could replace Parsons. Defeated play-off finalists Stourbridge present ‘Gate a tough return to National Two North.

“They will be very physical and competitive in the back line,” said Aspinall.

“Once we combat those threats, we can concentrate on playing our rugby.”
