Event 10 of the Fulford Cycles TT league comprised of 16 rolling miles from Arkendale Lane to A59 to Green Hammerton, Aldborough and back.
The conditions were good and Nova’s Duncan Mullier took full advantage to knock 22 seconds off the vets’ course record with 35:48. It only stood for minutes however as Boneshakers’ Steve Smales smashed the course record with 33:53. Nova’s Simon Ketteringham recorded 36:45 to score his first podium of the season. NYP Tri’s Simon Cave was fourth a further 30 seconds back with Nova’s Rob Senior, struggling with illness, another 25 seconds in arrears.
The previous weekend saw Yorkshire Road Club’s Ian Fairweather and Mike Shacklock plus Nova’s Duncan Mullier compete in the Ferryhill 50 mile TT between Yarm and Dishforth in epic conditions of strong winds and rain.
All three riders were caught in a torrential thunderstorm that caused nearly half the field to abandon. Shacklock recorded 2:01:44 in 18th place.
Mullier put in an astonishing ride to finish narrowly behind Fairweather with 1:52:41 and 1:52:02, fifth and fourth respectively.
The event was won by Port Sunlight’s Andy Wilkinson, who holds the Land’s End to John O’Groat’s TT record of 41 hours.
