The women took gold and bronze medals in the individual event along with gold in the women’s team event.

The results guarantee Olympic places for Mhairi Spence and Samantha Murray who will now be medal contenders in London.

The modern pentathlon is a gruelling day-long competition involving fencing, swimming, show jumping, running and shooting.

“Each discipline puts strains on different parts of the body,” Annette explained.

“So it is a real challenge for me to keep the athletes in peak physical form.

“It is all worthwhile when the team achieve such amazing result as we did in Rome.”

David will work with the team at the altitude training camp in the Pyrenees and will support them during the games.
