KNARESBOROUGH Town’s first team won their home game against Sherburn White Rose 3-1 to stay top of the West Yorkshire Premier on Saturday.

This was despite fielding a weakened by the absence of Chris Ellerker, Dave Thomas, Ash Atkinson and Colin Heath.

Steve Bromley had an early shot saved, before Byron Littlefair fired home in the 9th minute after Paul Stansfield headed the ball on.

Seb Carole hit wide before Knaresborough surrendered possession in their own half and Scott Williams centred for Calvin Waite to head home in the 15th minute.

Carole hit a free kick over and Jim Jollands was too high as Sherburn replied.

A fine move down the right saw Matt Thompson’s shot saved by Simon Hudson and Littlefair was just wide of the mark.

Knaresborough went back ahead in the 59th minute when Steve Bromley broke clear and slotted the ball past Hudson.

Thompson’s shot on the turn flew wide but soon afterwards, Bromley was pulled back in the area and Paul Stansfield hit home the 74th minute penalty.

Sherburn’s Ryan Hudson hit a free kick against the angle of post and crossbar, but Knaresborough held on and a late header from Blaine Hobson was kept out by Hudson.

Elsewhere in the division, there was a win for BOROUGHBRIDGE, who beat Whitkirk Wanderers 3-1 at home.

WETHERBY ATHLETIC also won 2-1 against Carlton Athletic.

BARDSEY’S double ambitions took another knock after a 3-0 defeat at Otley Town, while RIPON CITY lost 2-4 at home to Beeston.

Tomorrow, Knaresborough take on Beeston St. Anthony’s in their final home league match this season while the reserves travel to Boroughbridge Reserves. Both games kick off at 2.30 p.m.
