Wembley awaits Ripon's Coach of the Year
RIPON football coach Cindy Halliday will step out in front of thousands at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, to receive a top national award.
Cindy has been named Coach of the Year in the inaugural FA and McDonald’s Community Awards, which will be presented before Sunday’s Community Shield clash between Chelsea and Manchester United.
McDonald’s Head Coach Eric Harrison, the former Manchester United youth coach who schooled the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers during his tenure, will be on hand to present Cindy with her award.
Cindy, a servicewoman, performs a 50 mile round trip each week to inspire young footballers in Catterick.
She coaches children of all ages and ability and brings variety and new skills to each session that she coaches.
Cindy is also a firm believer in sportsmanship and encourages the children to shake hands and applaud each other at the end of the match.
The FA and McDonald’s Community Football Awards were created to recognise and reward individuals and clubs devoted to providing the best possible grassroots football experience across the country.
The national winners were chosen from a shortlist of regional nominees by a select panel of football coaching experts.
Harrison, who led the panel of expert coaches who judged the Coach of the Year award at a practical session for eight shortlisted nominees, said: “Cindy is enormously popular with players and parents due to her infectious enthusiasm and passion for coaching football.
“She really strives to make her coaching sessions enjoyable for all, and everyone is extremely grateful for what she puts in to coaching.”
