We won't make it easy for Bardsey warns Boroughbridge manager

By Andrew Groves

BOROUGHBRIDGE boss Daz Ekin has warned travelling Bardsey his side won’t make life easy for them tomorrow as they look to bounce back to winning ways (2.30pm).

‘Bridge come into the game on the back of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to arch-rivals Knaresborough Town – their first loss in 2010.

Now Ekin is hoping his side get over their weekend hangover against Martin Bradley’s band of travelling men.

“Looking at the table, Bardsey can only lose it,” said Ekin.

“But we won’t make it easy for them coming here. We want to finish as high as we can up the table and to do that we need to win as many as we can.

“We know how strong Bardsey are. They picked up a fantastic 5-1 win over Whitkirk on Saturday so we know all about them.

“But it’s an important game for us. The lads were really disappointed after the game on Saturday and that’s a good thing; it shows how far we’ve come.”

On Saturday ‘Bridge fell to a 2-0 derby defeat to ‘Boro’ but stayed third in the Premier League due to only three matches being played (for a full match report, see page 37).

BOROUGHBRIDGE RESERVES lost 2-1 at Rothwell.

‘Bridge were looking to pick up some much needed points from their trip to bottom-of-the-table Rothwell only to find for the second time this season that the side had been reinforced by first-team players.

Ironically, it was first-team players who played a part in all three goals as keeper Lee Wood was at fault for Ben Darville's opener with goals from other regulars Ryan Donaghue and Michael Rossiter coming to his rescue.

With their Whitworth tie finally done and dusted, RIPON CITY boss Charlie Brown has now fixed his gaze on winning another cup soap opera tomorrow at Featherstone Colliery (1.30pm ko).

The proposed trip to West Yorkshire in the third round of the League Cup will keep City’s hopes of lifting three pieces of silverware alive.

The Mallorie Parkers are still in with a chance of winning the Charity Cup when they eventually replay their postponed clash against Boroughbridge.

After Saturday’s 3-1 Whitworth Cup victory over Harrogate Town Reserves they also remain on course for a final showdown to be played at Wetherby Road.

Brown is keeping one eye on tomorrow’s forecast before their long trip and revealed the fixture could be switched to Mallorie if the Colliery pitch is unplayable.

“Mallorie Park is available on Saturday, there’s no game on there so it could take place there.

“We’ll just see if their park is playable,” said Brown.

“We want to get this tie on.

“Like the Whitworth we already know who we’ve got in the next few rounds.

“ If we win this we’ll play Brighouse and if we win that we’ll play Kellingley.

“We know what we have to do and we’ve got a great chance of having a good run in the competition.”

On Saturday Brown dominated the game from the outset, according to Brown, with Steve Davey going close in the opening stages.

City made their early possession count soon after when Ben Clayton got his head on the end of a George Medd corner to give the home side the lead.

Tim Edney then fired City 2-0 ahead but Town managed to grab one back before the break.

But any nerves knocking around Mallorie Park were soon washed away when Edney scored his second of the afternoon to seal the win.

City will play Knaresborough Celtic in the next round of the competition.

“It was just good to get the game to be honest,” added Brown.

“We dominated the game. We won it 3-1 but it could have been more than that if we would have taken our chances.”
