Studley look for winning tonic as Ripon seek survival shot in arm

STUDLEY ROYAL captain Steve Walmsley is urging his players to get back on track tomorrow after last weekend's disappointment away at Goole Town.

Walmsley’s men are set to face high flying Dunnington at home tomorrow (1.30 start) and hope to find some of the form that saw them break in to the top five a few weeks ago.

Last Saturday, the Galphay Road side only managed to gather four points against mid-table Goole.

Batting first, Studley struggled to 151-8 after a start which saw them fall short of where they would have wanted to be.

“We under performed with the bat and at 50- 5 it was always going to be difficult to pull that back and post a decent total.” said Walmsley.

Matt Coad (35 no), Gary Blackburn (34) and Matt Pickles (28) were the main contributions towards the Royals total.

Walmsley added: “Matt Coad and Matt Pickles managed to put together a good partnership and get us up to the 151 which was a great effort considering our start.

“We felt we had at least a score to bowl at. Early wickets along with some tight bowling and we knew we could be back in the game.”

Goole then proceeded in successfully chasing down the total with the loss of just three wickets. Ben Coad took two wickets in a tight spell but the visitors had little else to shout about.

Studley host Premier League stalwarts Dunnington tomorrow, a match Walmsley knows will be a stern test for his side.

“They are putting in some convincing results of late, but we've already proved if we play to our full potential we can beat anyone on our day,” said Walmsley.

He added: “Collis King has a great record this year and Dave Johnson who left Sessay last season has been getting both runs and wickets.”

Walmsley goes into the match with the three Mackle’s missing from action at Anthony’s wedding, but sees the return of Mark Sowray and Nick Stuart, whilst George Lamb comes up from the 2nd team.

SESSAY welcome Beverley Town to Main Street tomorrow eyeing an immediate response after Saturday’s deat to Clifton Alliance.

On Saturday Mark Wilkie made 48, John Flintoff 27 and Chris Till 46 in Sessay’s 203-7 with Alex Renton taking 4-61.

Joel Hughes then led Clifton’s reply with 82 with support from Adam Slater 47 and skipper John Gilham, who made 38 to pull Clifton home.

THIRSK travel to Acomb tomorrow looking to bounce back from Saturday’s crucial eight-wicket loss against Fenner.

Ben England (83no) and Ryan McKendry (64) batted Thirsk up to 218-5. But Fenner had no problem pulling home in response for a simple win.

RIPON will be looking to give their survival hopes a shot in the arm tomorrow when they

On Saturday they lost a high scoring contest against Bridlington.

Batting first Brid’ managed to make 295-5 with S Garton (69), C Rudd (93), R Lount (31) and S Edmondson (57no) in the runs C Hazzard taking 3-70.

The Studley Road outfit then made 197 all out in response with Matt Morton (34) H Wooding (52) and T Gaunt (30) trying their best in vain.
