Referee's injury leaves Ripon result in doubt
THEIR away hoodoo has returned and, with his side down to the bare bones, Ripon first team manager Jim Buckley is fearing the worst at Moortown tomorrow (2.15pm ko).
However, after Saturday's poor performance at West Leeds, he's expecting a reaction from the troops as they head towards the Christmas break.
Ripon's weekend Yorkshire Two clash was eventful, to say the least. With eight minutes left on the clock the referee suffered a knee injury and the match had to be abandoned with West Leeds 17-9 up at that point. Glen Lyons scored all of Ripon's points through penalties.
"If the game is called off due to adverse weather conditions and you've played more than 60 minutes then the result stands but I don't know the rule if a referee gets injured," said Buckley.
"It's in the hands of the RFU; now we'll have to see. That's given us a reprieve because, to be honest, we didn't deserve anything from the game.
"Our away hoodoo returned and we'll have to make sure that doesn't happen this week."
With Mick Hamill (operation, six weeks), Jason Bell, Nick Dodds, Dan Watson and Sam Garrett all out, it promises to be a much changed Ripon side tomorrow.
Buckley is hoping they can bounce back immediately before their home clash against Pocklington at Mallorie Park in eight days' time.
"There are quite a few missing but the second team picked up another good win on Saturday; we might have to pull a few of them in."
