Football: Good result for City

CHARLIE Brown's Ripon City side enjoyed a 2-1 victory at home to Aberford Albion on Saturday.

The result lends a welcome boost to City's West Yorkshire League Premier Division points haul, ahead of this weekend's visit to Carlton Athletic.

Meantime, Premier Division rivals BOROUGHBRIDGE went out of the West Riding County Cup at the third round stage after a 5-3 defeat away at Bay Athletic.

Elsewhere, KIRKBY MALZEARD also exited the competition, as Phil Ambler's troops lost 3-1 at home to Campion.

THIRSK FALCONS enjoyed a 4-1 win over Lingdale FC in the North Riding County Cup.
