'Bridge toast fine weekend on the pitch
IT was a fine weekend on the pitch for Boroughbridge's three teams on Saturday.
The first team pulled off an excellent 3-0 victory away at Sherburn.
Although Steve Tovey will break the trend this week 'Bridge have experienced an unusual phenomenon since the enforced winter break by having the same side take the park on three successive matches and on Saturday a second half brace from Paul Eagling and his third in four games from Ben Jones gave Bridge their first victory and first goals at Sherburn's Finkle Hill ground.
Man-of-the-match was Paul Eagling.
BOROUGHBRIDGE RESERVES beat Field 2-0.
Following a delayed start resulting from their visitors' navigational problems Bridge were quickly out of the blocks only to find the Field keeper Mark Brown in good form as he made successive saves to thwart Ryan Watts and Ben Darville.
Their positive start took a jolt on 27 minutes when Field strung together a good attacking move and as the ball arrived at the feet of Ross Parr he coolly lobbed Paul Diamond for the opening goal.
Despite some poor recent results Bridge were unfazed by the setback and came back strongly but their confidence could have been severely dented if Waleed Raja counter attacking run, just before the break, had not fizzled out.
Bridge started the second half at a similar tempo and after Brown had denied Darville and Stephen Coles they regained parity sixteen minutes in when Darville broke between a couple of defenders to slip the ball past the advancing Brown.
The game leveled out after this but it was Bridge who were to have the last word when Mark Burniston got his 'Sat Nav' in perfect working order with a stunning 30 yarder that flew into the Brown's top corner to secure three valuable points.
His dramatic late winner could not, however, wrestle the MOM award from brother David who put in another sterling performance in the home defence.
Man-of-the-match was Dave Burniston.
BOROUGHBRIDGE A drew 2-2 with Dalton.
After pulling back a half time two goal deficit Bridge would normally have been happy with a point but there was a lot of self recrimination amongst the players at the end for their slipshod start and profligacy. The game was only seven minutes old when Dan Binks was left unmarked to convert a Matt Till corner and he was on target from the penalty spot twenty minutes later after Richard Balderson had been brought down. Bridge were creating their own problems but managed to regroup and steady the ship to half time.
After the break Bridge managed to assert some authority on the game but found the home side quite happy to absorb the pressure and when chances came their way leading goal scorers Paul Scaife and Jake Fletcher missed some golden opportunities.
On 65 minutes the industrious Steve Warburton got the deserved breakthrough as he curled a beauty into Paul Foster's top corner from the edge of the box and six minutes later Tom Hepworth hit a low hard shot from a corner through a ruck of players for the equalizer.
As Bridge pushed for the winner Chris Chapman, back in his more familiar role, had a header cleared off the line by Gary Foster and the Bridge Manager missed his chance of glory by volleying the rebound into the trees.
Man-of-the-match was Steve Warburton. On Sunday however 'Bridge were beaten 4-0 by Sherwood.
A five goal salvo from Paul Stephenson gave Bridge Vets a comfortable passage into the next round of the Corinthians Cup.
