A YOUNG Boroughbridge football fan is set to run out onto the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium after being chosen as a mascot for his team.

Eight-year-old Declan Green is all set to lead York City FC players onto the famous pitch when he is the club’s mascot for their FA Trophy final clash with Newport County.

Declan, a pupil at Boroughbridge Primary School, is one of five young fans to win a coveted mascot’s job for the match.

The club ran a competition for members of the Young Reds junior fan club, and junior season ticket holders. Declan entered by writing a 100 word piece on why he wanted to be a mascot, and was delighted when he heard he had been chosen for the job.

Mum Tammy Green said: “Declan’s very excited about being the mascot at Wembley, and his Daddy is as well.”

As well as supporting York City, Declan also plays for his own team, Boroughbridge under 9s.
