Harrogate Town have been hit with a three point deducted for fielding three unregistered players.
An administration error meant three players were not registered to play in Town’s 2-1 win at Oxford City on the opening day of the season.
Town had failed to register midfielder Adam Bolder, captain Shane Killock and goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray prior to the opening match.
The trio had all signed two year contracts at the same time mid-way through last season,
The decision means Town drop to 12th in the Skrill North.
Town were also fined £300 by the Football Conference.
Town boss Simon Weaver said: “It’s disappointing but we move on.
“I discovered it on the Monday after winning at Oxford.
“It was a blow at the time for everyone at the club after all the hard work and preparation put in.
“But it was testament to the character of the players having been told, two days later that went and beat North Ferriby 5-0.”
Town confirmed the club secretary resigned after the error.
Town lost their third straight Skrill North match on Saturday when second-placed Brackley Town grabbed a 1-0 victory at the CNG Stadium.
Weaver’s side start their FA Cup quest at Colwyn Bay this Saturday in the second qualifying round.
