Tadcaster Albion’s new signing made an instant impact on Wednesday night at Athersley Recreation.

Former Scarborough Athletic skipper Tony Hackworth scored the only goal of the game as Albion’s 1-0 win sewed up three more points to go back to the top of the NCEL Premier.

Hackworth joins Paul Marshall’s troops after three years on the east coast.

The former Leeds United player had taken a break from football this season due to a troublesome Achilles injury, but three games into his return he decided it was time to move on.

Boss Rudy Funk was devastated by the news, though he understands the decision of the former Scarborough FC and Leeds United man.

“After the game Tony came to me, we talked man to man and we both decided that it would be best for both parties.”
