Harrogate Town’s Kris Gate has left Wetherby Road without playing a game for the club.

The former Gateshead man wants to start a plumbing course and travelling from the North East would also be an issue.

“Kris is a good lad and I respect his decision and we are better off knowing the situation now rather than having an on-going problem throughout the season,” said boss Simon Weaver.

“I have made it clear to all the lads that we don’t want want any negatives in people’s minds when they enter the club, for whatever reason. If we can help players in any way we will, however, in factors beyond our control such as the travelling, then we cannot change the dynamics.”

Meanwhile, Weaver said they still haven’t received the required paperwork to ok Mark Cook’s transfer to Peruvian club Universitario de Deportes.

The shotstopper can’t play for Nobby Solano’s men until this has been verified.

If the transfer does go ahead the Town boss revealed the club are to make some money from it.
