Harrogate Railway are coming to terms to with one of the club’s heaviest defeats this week, after getting hammered 10-3 at home to Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday.

Railway had shipped seven goals by half-time, and although striker Paul Beesley enjoyed a night of personal success by smashing a hat-trick, Radcliffe slammed in three more by the final whistle.

Assistant boss Mick Norbury termed it the worst moment of his footballing career.

“It was an embarrassment,” he said.

“I’ve never seen anything like it as a player or a manager. It was the worst point so far in my career.”

It is Railway’s heaviest loss since the 10-0 drubbing by Liversedge back in the 1999-2000 season.

Before Tuesday, Railway had previously lost 3-2 away at strugglers Ossett Albion on Saturday, who up until that point had yet to win a game.

And they face a huge test of their bouncebackability this Saturday, when they travel to high-flying Lancaster City (3pm) in the Evo-Stik First Division North.

“We need a performance,” added Norbury.
