Thirty year seven and eight students at Wetherby High School were handed a treat of a lifetime when England rugby union stars Chris Ashton and Joel Tomkins turned up to deliver a training session last month.

The students were led in two separate training sessions run by RFU coaches, Wetherby RUFC coaches and the two England players.

The day was filmed by Sky Sports and aired prior to the England v Australia game on Saturday, November 2.

The programme was also shown on Sky Sports News and gave Sam Mayhew and Emma Haskin their five minutes of fame during interviews.

It also showed Gabby Derrick’s fancy footwork and Kieron Green’s passing skills.

The players then held a question and answer session for the students.

Chris Patchett, Wetherby High spokesman, said: “This was an unbelievable opportunity for our students and reflects their commitment as well as improvement.

“It was truly an experience never to be forgotten.”
