DOUBLE cup winners Boroughbridge will begin their friendly fixtures with the visit of Kirkbymoorside on Sunday (2pm ko).
Boss Daz Ekin will again take the reins of the Aldborough Road club with the stalwart gaffer predicting another successful season if he can mould another strong squad together.
James McDaid (Pontefract) and Chris Hastings (Knaresborough) are the notable absentees.
But with former Manse Lane and Mallorie Park midfielder Matty Whitehead down training and CSC goal machine Paul Beesley expected to sign, Ekin feels he has the strength in depth he’ll need to challenge the Premier League big hitters.
“We’re all excited about it,” he said.
“We’ve got Kirkbymoorside first who are a good side and it’ll be a good test for us.
“Then it’s Brighouse Town at home.
“We want to be ready for the start of the season this year. Last year we got off to a terrible start and we can’t let that happen again.”
Meanwhile BOROUGHBRUIDGE RESERVES will kick-off their pre-season with a home clash against KIRKBY MALZEARD tomorrow (12.30pm ko).
Kirkby will continue their friendly fixtures with a trip to The Ship next Friday night.
Three other games are pencilled in against Wetherby Athletic, Bedale and Brafferton Rangers.
Malzeard training sessions have already begun.
