NIDDERDALE League side Newby Hall CC are anticipating a season of success in 2010, and with nets due to begin at Ripon Grammar School this month, skipper Matt Uffindall is hoping for a bumper summer.
“The club has enjoyed great levels of success throughout the last decade with some real highlights; hosting the MCC and Crusaders who had Clint Mackey playing for them,” he said.

“Winning the First division three times, the Wath Cup, numerous Evening League titles and the treble a couple of years back when all three sides were crowned champions of their respective divisions means we have a lot to live up to.

“We have the new adjacent second ground that is now in really good shape, the juniors are coming on leaps and bounds and a social scene that is as hectic and fun as ever means Newby is a really great place to play cricket.

“ Further work has been put in during the winter with further refurbishments on the changing rooms and bar area, so it’s all looking good.”

Uffindall is particularly looking forward to seeing the next crop of Newby talent rise through the ranks and feels the club is shaping up to field some successful sides.

“The next decade could be equally exciting with the young players coming through, the likes of Angus Forbes, Connor Stacey and Dave Henstock I’m sure will be household names in a few years,” he said.

“We might lose Ryan Devine to the army but apart from that we are pretty much as you were, we are looking at another couple of players coming in.

“We are raring to go, we want to play some really enjoyable cricket this year and who knows what September might bring?”

Newby begin the on field preparations for the 2010 season with winter nets in February.

Six sessions are booked in at the brand new Ripon Grammar School facility and will run from Sunday February 21 through to March 28 from 8-9pm.

All players old and new are welcome.

Newby Hall are on the lookout for any local businesses that may be interested in sponsoring the club and in particular are seeking a main shirt sponsor for the next two years.
