A GREAT finale to the season saw Ripon U-11s enter the 36th Festival of Junior rugby at Darlington on Sunday.
A quick look at the other teams present meant it was going to be another challenging day for the squad with some difficult games ahead.

The draw put Ripon in with teams from Ponteland, Wharfedale and Pocklington with similar strength teams in the opposite side of the draw.

The first game saw Ripon play their recent victors Ponteland in the final of the Tynedale 7’s.

Not to be outdone this time the Ripon squad dug deep and beat the much bigger Ponteland side by two tries to nil, scorers Tom Newby and George Foster with Finn Hassall landing both conversions.

Boosted by this win Ripon then took on another good side from Wharfedale.

In a close contested game Ripon ran out victors by 7-0 with another try from Tom Newby again converted by Finn Hassall.

With progression to the final already guaranteed Ripon then played out a 0-0 draw with Pocklington with defence being the dominant side of both teams play.

With the other side of the draw coming to a conclusion it soon became apparent that once again it was to be Ripon v Harrogate in the final.

With the earlier defeat in the Yorkshire Cup still smarting, the Ripon team were certainly ready for this game when they entered the pitch.

As in previous meetings between these two teams it was once again nip and tuck all the way, but on this occasion it was Ripon who took the spoils with a try in either half from Euan Findlay, Finn Hassall adding both conversions.

Ripon U-11s’ shirts are sponsored by Alison Herbert & Co Solicitors and Alison presented the Player of the Year trophy to Charlie Capps.
