MORE than 400 fish were caught at Leighton Reservoir in the last week, 415 in total including seven double-figure fish of which two fell to angler Geoff Busfield.
Fishing at Masham’s Swinton Estate has been at its best when the sun stays in, bright sunny days sending the fish deeper.

Lures remain most successful but fish have also been caught on Hares Ear, Buzzers and Daddies.

Restocking continues with three deliveries each week of fish weighing 2lbs to 14lbs, including tagged fish for malt whisky or a free day’s fishing.

Thirteen has also proved a lucky number at Leighton, with 13 double-figure fish caught, the largest of which was a 13lb rainbow trout landed by Ray Wood of Bishop Auckland.

Orange is proving the lucky colour for flies, Orange Fritz being most successful.

The reservoir’s own website, www.leightonflyfishing.co.uk, will shortly be available to visit, giving details of ticket prices, location, news and future promotions and events.
